Democratic Attorney Announces Bid For Rep. Joe Heck's Seat

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Democratic attorney Jesse Sbaih has announced he'll run for the congressional seat currently held by Republican Rep. Joe Heck.

The 39-year-old Henderson resident and political newcomer said Monday that he's running because he wants to give Americans the same opportunities he had and wants to break through partisan gridlock in Washington.

Sbaih was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia and has lived in Nevada since 2001. He runs his own law firm, which specializes in personal injury cases.

Four Republicans have announced bids for the seat, which includes Summerlin and Henderson in Southern Nevada and is considered a swing district. They include state Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson, Danny Tarkanian, Annette Teijeiro and Andy Matthews.

Potential Democratic candidates Sen. Aaron Ford and former Secretary of State Ross Miller both declined to run.
