Henderson launches trap, neuter, release program for stray cats

The City of Henderson is trying something new, at least for them, to control its stray cat population: a program to trap, neuter, vaccinate, and then release the cats, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The city council unanimously approved the use of the program for one year on Tuesday.

The goals are to cut the number of cats at the shelter awaiting adoption and the number of feral cats who are euthanized. Once volunteers trap a stray cat, it will be spayed or neutered to curtail breeding and vaccinated. The cat will be returned to where it
was trapped.

Animal Control Administrator Danielle Harney said during the meeting that these are community cats who have no microchips or indication that of an owner.

The program will be administered by the nonprofit Community Cat Coalition of Clark County, which oversees TNVR programs for Clark County, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.
