The baby formula shortage has been forcing some Las Vegas mothers to find other options to feed their babies.
With as much as 50% of the formula stock not available, mothers are looking for alternatives.
La Leche League of Las Vegas is helping moms who can’t find enough food for their baby.
Spokesperson Corine Flatt said the trained volunteer moms are helping other moms in a couple of ways.
- Helping women who may be struggling to produce their own milk.
- Helping women “re-lactate.” These are women who may have already stopped breast feeding but because of the formula shortage may want to restart.
“It’s definitely much easier if a woman has just recently stopped breast feeding. But we certainly have instances of women being able to re-lactate after months, years, even decades," Flatt said.

Two other organizations, Eat on Feets and Human Milk for Human Babies Nevada are helping women participate in milk sharing.
