Nevada Tops 58,000 COVID-19 Cases, Approaches 1,000 Deaths

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada is reaching somber coronavirus milestones, topping 58,000 confirmed cases since the pandemic began and approaching 1,000 deaths.

State coronavirus response chief Caleb Cage called the marks a reminder of the importance of mitigation measures. He pointed to masks and face coverings, reduced person-to-person contact, 50% occupancy limits and hand-washing advisories.

Washoe County's health district officer in Reno also warned Wednesday against complacency in the face of recent reductions in the spread of the virus.

The Southern Nevada Health District reported the Las Vegas area has passed 50,000 confirmed cases and 842 deaths. That's close to 85% of the state's fatalities.
