The state of Nevada reached a grim milestone Thursday when it was reported that more than 1,000 people have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Gov. Steve Sioslak issued a statement to recognize those who died and their families.
"The grief felt by the deaths of each of these Nevadans that has succumbed to this virus has been devastating to so many across our State, and the First Lady and I extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those who have been lost. Myself and the entire administration will continue doing everything we can to fight against this virus with the goals of mitigating the spread and preventing more loss," the governor said.
Sisolak said the milestone is a reminder that people need to vigilant in their efforts to mitigate the spread of the disease.
Statewide, 58,650 people have tested positive for the disease and Clark County accounts for 50,569 of those cases.
