Teacher's Union Backs Superintendent Jara In Contract Controversy

The Clark County Education Association has come out in support of embattled Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara.

The teacher's union said in a letter released Tuesday that he is a victim of a political attack by school board member Danielle Ford.

The union said that Ford has a plan to take over the school board and is working with the administrators’ union to further her own agenda.

CCEA said it will release another letter Wednesday when the CCSD school board is scheduled to meet with Jara to discuss his contract.

He has recently been criticized by Governor Steve Sisolak, the Nevada Department of Education Superintendent, the administrators’ union and parent groups over the handling of a bill that went before the Legislature's special session.

The bill would have taken money from individual schools and moved it to help cover district-wide budget gaps. The proposal did not go anywhere but it was heavily criticized by lawmakers.
