UNLV has removed the 'Hey Reb' statue from in front of the Tam Alumni Center on campus.
The announcement was made Tuesday.
President Marta Meana said in a statement that the donor of the statue and the university had mutually agreed to return the statue.

Meana also said discussions with people around campus and the community about the school's mascot had increased in recent weeks, in the wake of protests against racial injustice. She did not say if the mascot would be replaced entirely.
The mascot has been under fire for several years as a symbol of the Confederacy.
