The Clark County teachers union says it will increase member dues to fund a multi-million dollar campaign to persuade voters to approve a tax increase to provide at least $1 billion more annually for public education in Nevada.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the campaign will create two separate initiative petitions to raise taxes.
Such petitions require signatures of 10 percent of the voters who participated in the last general election to enact a ballot measure.

The dues paid by union members will increase by $9 biweekly, generating an estimated $2.2 million.
The executive director of the teachers union, John Vellardita, said the plan was approved by 87 percent of those who attended.
