Time Shortens To Drive Scenic Road In Red Rock Canyon

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The time to drive down a scenic road at Red Rock Canyon is shifting as the sun sets earlier.

The 13-mile scenic drive at the national conservation area west of the Las Vegas Strip will close at 5 p.m. starting Friday. Until then, it's open until 7 p.m.

The area has miles of hiking trails, picnic areas and other spots for rock climbing, mountain biking and horseback riding.

Visitors can start driving the scenic roadway at 6 a.m.

Visitation is heavy in the fall, especially on weekends and holidays, because of milder weather.

Sink your teeth into our annual collection of dining — and drinking — stories, including a tally of Sin City's Tiki bars, why good bread is having a moment, and how one award-winning chef is serving up Caribbean history lessons through steak. Plus, discover how Las Vegas is a sports town, in more ways than one. Bon appétit!
