Hollister Gold Mine In Elko Closing

The Hollister gold mine in Elko County is closing.

The Hecla Mining Company, which owns Hollister and some other mines in the state, announced last week it’s cutting spending after “heavy investment” and disappointing first and second quarters this year.

President and CEO Phillips S. Baker, Jr. said in a press release the company is "curtailing most development and reducing the workforce with the goal of the operation generating positive cash flow in the second half of the year.”

Twenty-five percent of Hecla’s Nevada workforce is being laid off.
