Washoe County Commission To Pick Among 16 For State Assembly

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County Commission is expected to select a new state Assembly member Tuesday to replace Sparks Democrat Mike Sprinkle, who recently resigned in the face of allegations of sexual harassment.

The 16 qualified applicants include the widowed spouses of two former state lawmakers and the daughter of another.

Greg Smith's late wife, state Sen. Debbie Smith, died in 2016. Nancy Price's late husband, North Las Vegas Assemblyman Bob Price, died in January.

Natha Anderson is the daughter of longtime Sparks Assemblyman Bernie Anderson, who died in 2014.

Other applicants include former Sparks mayoral candidate Wendy Stolyarov; Leslie Mix, ex-head of the Northern Nevada Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Jenna Garcia, a Washoe County public defender; and Emerson Marcus, a former Reno Gazette-Journal reporter who is now a public affairs officer for the Nevada National Guard.
