65-Year-Old Las Vegas Man Dies While In Police Custody

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 65-year-old man has died while in Las Vegas police custody.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Roy Anthony Scott was pronounced dead Sunday at Valley Hospital Medical Center.

The cause of his death has not been released.

Police says Scott called to report three suspicious men outside of his apartment.

Officers did not find anyone outside but Scott approached officers holding a pipe and cellphone. He also had a knife and surrendered the items to officers, but a struggle occurred and he began experiencing health problems that led to him being transported to the hospital.

Scott's family says he suffered from schizophrenia and other health issues and expressed skepticism over the police account.

The police department says it is conducting an internal investigation.
