Native American Tribes Discuss Opposition To SNWA Pipeline Plan

Members of several tribes, including the Navajo and Southern Shoshoni, met in Las Vegas last week to discuss their opposition to a massive groundwater pumping project.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority has spent nearly three decades trying to develop the pipeline project, and General Manager John Enstminger said The Groundwater Development Project is still on the table as part of SNWA’s 50-year plan.

The proposed project would build a 250-mile pipeline to carry 27 million gallons of groundwater each year from rural Eastern Nevada aquifers to meet the municipal demands of Southern Nevada.
