LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials in Clark County are considering banning baseball bats, slingshots and other items that could be used as weapons during protests.
County commissioners on Tuesday discussed developing an ordinance that they hope would prevent violence at gatherings.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Las Vegas police representative Chuck Callaway says the department became interest in developing an ordinance after the violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Hundreds of white nationalists, neo-Nazis and other far-right extremists — some dressed as if they were headed to battle — converged in that city Aug. 12. Counterprotesters gathered, too, and violence broke out.
The day ended with three people dead.
The ordinance in the county that includes the Las Vegas Strip would allow small sticks and pipes used to hoist signs and flags, but larger ones would be banned.
