Washoe County School Cuts Could Eliminate Dozens Of School Bus Routes

Budget cuts in the Washoe County School District could mean thousands of students wil lose their bus routes.

The school district decided this week to expand walk zones for some elementary and middle school students, and eliminate eight to 10 bus drivers.

It’s a move that would save the school district $550,000. It also means more than 2,700 students will either have to walk or find another way to school.

The expansion of the walk zones is just one example of the multi-million dollar package of budget cuts tentatively approved by the school board this week.

These proposed cuts won’t be made final until the board gives its final approval expected to come in May.
