WCSD Reverses Student Protester's Suspension

The Washoe County School District has reversed a Reno high school student’s suspension after the ACLU of Nevada threatened legal action.

The Reno Gazette-Journalreports the district announced its decision last night to remove the punishment from Noah Christiansen’s record.

The 17-year-old McQueen High School junior called Congressman Mark Amodei’s office while participating in the March 14 school walk-out demonstrations marking a month since a mass shooting in a Parkland, Florida high school.

Christiansen was given a two-day suspension after an Amodei staffer called his school, complaining that he used “offensive, disrespectful and vulgar” language.

As a result of the suspension, Christiansen could not serve in his recently-elected position as class secretary.
