LAS VEGAS (AP) — A jury has convicted a Las Vegas woman accused of abusing her three adopted children.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Clark County jury on Tuesday found 57-year-old Janet Solander guilty of 46 counts, including child abuse and sexual assault with a minor under 14.
The jury's decision came after a month of testimony. Solander faces a possible life sentence for what prosecutors described as years of abuse that she carried out "just to cause pain."
Prosecutors during the trial said Solander unnecessarily used a catheter on the girls and burned on of them with hot water.
Defense attorney Caitlyn McAmi dismissed much of the testimony, saying it came from "troubled girls" who made up the stories.
Solander is the author of a book critical of Child Protective Services.
