Utah's governor is calling on lawmakers this year to consider reining in and pruning more than 100 tax credits and exemptions the state offers in order to collect more money for schools and other government services.
While legislators are looking to collect cut some exemptions and ensure the state is collecting taxes it's owed, lawmakers are also proposing new credits and exemptions this year that would undercut the extra money.
Lawmakers have introduced bills this year to offers sales tax exemptions on tampons, diapers and other hygiene products and on services offered by big game hunting guides.
But they're also working to collect more money by phasing out an income tax credit for solar panels and requiring online retailers to collect sales tax from Utah residents.
