The city of Elko has voted to continue a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries from operating within city limits.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports council voted 4 to 1 yesterday to keep the ban in place for another two years.
The ban in place was set to expire at the end of February, but will now run until 2018.
Those who voted for keeping the ban in place said medical marijuana was bad for law enforcement and that marijuana itself is still illegal at a federal level.
The one councilmember who voted against extending the moratorium told the newspaper Elko stood to lose out on tax revenue from sales of medical marijuana.
He also said the ban didn't make sense since a majority of Elko County residents had voted to legalize medical marijuana in Nevada.v
