With the new year, one of the most far-reaching school choice laws in the country takes effect in Nevada.
Senate Bill 302 allows parents to set up education savings accounts.
The accounts are to be administered by the state treasurer's office, and they would collect state funding that would otherwise be spent on public schools, meaning that tax dollars could be used to help pay for private schooling of children.
There are two lawsuits challenging the law, and they are pending in court.
Another education bill comes into effect in 2016.
Under Assembly Bill 107, school districts and charter schools are now required to provide information about students receiving free or reduced-priced breakfasts and lunches in annual accountability reports.
