Drone Racing Comes To Las Vegas

A retro hotel-casino in Las Vegas will soon host participants in the emerging sport of drone racing.

Vegas Inc reports that the Downtown Project says it will hold a drone competition at the vacant Western Hotel on Nov. 15.

The Xtreme Drone Circuit will hold a first-person view drone race. The sport has pilots track their drone through goggles that let them see the race from the aircraft's perspective.

Organizers say they will design a course inside the Western where 48 pilots will compete from $2,500 in cash and prizes. The event will include a bar and the views will be streamed on TV screens for an audience.

Flying the drones inside lets organizers avoid any issues with the Federal Aviation Administration.
