CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The conservative Nevada Policy Research Institute has released a report card giving low marks to Gov. Brian Sandoval and moderate Republicans who helped usher a $1.1 billion tax package and a wide range of education initiatives through the Legislature.
The group graded the governor and lawmakers on a scale of 0 to 100 based on how closely they lined up with NPRI's legislative priorities. The group opposed tax increases, tax incentive programs and many spending measures, while pushing to weaken union power and scale back public employee pensions.
NPRI gave Sandoval a score of 43 percent because he pushed the tax plan, but praised him for supporting Education Savings Accounts.
Ardently anti-tax Assembly members scored high. Rural Republican Assemblywoman Robin Titus topped the list with a rating of 93 percent.
