CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada is one of eight states receiving millions of dollars to help improve its charter schools.
The U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that Nevada would receive $7.8 million this year, and could receive more than $16 million over the course of three years if all goes as planned.
The money will create a state-level grant program that could be used to start new charter schools, improve student achievement at existing charter schools or spread best practices from successful charter schools.
Interim state Superintendent Steve Canavero said the award affirms the work done in Nevada to support high-quality charter schools and help them serve disadvantaged students.
Other grant recipients include Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina and the District of Columbia.
