Grand Jury May Hear Evidence In Police Shooting

Defense attorneys have been told that a grand jury may hear evidence against two men arrested after a backyard shootout left a veteran Las Vegas police officer seriously wounded.

Lawyers for 24-year-old Steven Turner and 20-year-old Clemon Hudson say they expect prosecutors to seek an indictment days before a preliminary hearing, scheduled Sept. 24.

Officer Jeremy Robertson is recuperating after surgery to repair a shattered thigh bone following the 4 a.m. Sept. 4 shooting at a home several miles west of downtown Las Vegas.

Police have corrected earlier reports, and now say Turner wounded Robertson with an SKS semi-automatic rifle — not an AK-47.

Police say Hudson fired a 12-gauge shotgun, and also had a handgun.

Turner and Hudson are being held on attempted murder, burglary, battery and weapon charges.
