Obama To Keynote 8th Clean Energy Summit In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — President Barack Obama will headline, but the future of rooftop solar electricity could be the key topic during an annual green power conference hosted by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Monday at a Las Vegas Strip resort.

Obama's keynote speech is scheduled to close the eighth National Clean Energy Summit at the Mandalay Bay resort.

The conference comes with solar companies and advocates in Nevada battling electricity provider NV Energy over the amount of electricity it will buy back from rooftop generation systems.

NV Energy said last week it reached a statewide cap of 235 megawatts on the amount of rooftop solar power it will buy back from customers.

Solar power advocates complain that the utility's rate structure threatens to kill their fledgling industry in a state with abundant sunshine.

Clean Energy Project Executive Director Jennifer Taylor joined us on KNPR's State of Nevada last week for a preview of the summit.  You can find that interview here.
