CARSON CITY (AP) — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says he wants transportation officials to consider adding support for self-driving cars as part of a multimillion dollar highway improvement project in Las Vegas.
The Republican governor and other members of the state's Department of Transportation board of directors said Monday that they wanted to include support for self-driving vehicles in the planning of a Las Vegas highway expansion.
Sandoval said he wanted the state to host a conference with self-driving car manufacturers by the end of the year.
Board members were updated on Project Neon, a multiyear Interstate 15 widening project in Las Vegas. Transportation officials said that the project is six to eight months away from beginning initial construction on the project.
