Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will continue her push to stop human trafficking.

Last year, Masto shepherded the passage of Assembly Bill 67, which included stricter penalties for sex traffickers, gave law enforcement agencies additional means of monitoring suspected perpetrators including wiretapping, and gave victims he right to sue their captors, among other protections.

“We cannot forget the survivors,” Masto said Thursday at the second conference for the Nevada Human Trafficking Task Force.

The Task Force includes Las Vegas Metro Police, the FBI, the Clark County DA, the U.S. Attorney for Nevada, Homeland Security, the Department of Labor, the state attorney general and the Salvation Army.

Last July there was some negative publicity around one effort backed by the task force, a documentary called “Trafficked No More” which was produced by Pastor Troy Martinez. Members of the task force were concerned that funds raised from the documentary were going to fund Martinez’ nonprofit, 10,000 kids. Martinez denied the accusations. The pastor talked with KNPR about the documentary in 2014.
