Reno city parks officials are blaming degraded water quality caused by drought for the deaths of dozens of ducks at two urban lakes. Parks manager Jeff Mann says 24 dead ducks have been found at Virginia Lake in recent weeks and a similar number at Teglia's Paradise Park. Mann said they likely suffered from avian botulism as a result of low water and oxygen levels. He says the situation will probably get worse before it gets better. Lakes and ponds in all of Reno's parks are fed by Truckee River water and it's been weeks since any fresh water has entered the system.
