Gov. Sisolak Authorizes Additional National Guards For Southern Nevada

Governor Steve Sisolak has activated additional National Guard members for Southern Nevada, following a request from local officials in the wake of violent protests on the Strip and downtown.

The guard members won't be used on the front lines to make arrests or for crowd control, instead, they'll be used as support personnel for local law enforcement.

The Nevada National Guard will focus on protecting critical facilities and allowing people to exercise their right to peacefully protest.

The governor activated two guard units over the weekend, one for Northern Nevada and one for Southern Nevada.

The extra guard deployment comes on the heels of a deadly night in Las Vegas. One man was killed by law enforcement after a confrontation downtown and a Las Vegas Metro Police Department officer is on life support after being shot by a protester along the Las Vegas Strip.

Protesters around the country have spent the last several days protesting the death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.
