Washoe County School Board To Decide Whether To Fight Judge's Ruling On Investigation

The Washoe County School Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to appeal a judge's ruling on an investigation into allegations of bullying and harassment within the special education department.

The June 26 ruling by District Judge Jerome Polaha ordered the district to turn over records on that investigation to the Reno Gazette-Journal

But the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the school board shows administration officials want to fight the ruling in front of the Nevada Supreme Court.

The Gazette-Journal’s petition was originally filed in February after the district’s attorney refused multiple requests for the records under the Nevada Public Records Act.

The case dates to early 2017 when the Gazette-Journal reported that the district spent $48,000 to hire a human resources firm to investigate work-related complaints within the School District’s Office of Special Services.
