Fast food workers in Las Vegas went on strike Monday to call for a $15 minimum wage and union rights.
The local strike is part of a national protest effort on the 50 th anniversary of the historic Memphis sanitation strike, where black municipal workers staged a walkout in 1968 that became the rallying cry of the Poor People’s Campaign led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A labor advocacy group says the strikes and protest come as politicians have cut minimum wages and attacked unions across the country, disproportionately harming workers of color.
