Proposed Ballot Measure Would Make Sanctuary Cities Unconstitutional

Top Nevada Republican Senator Michael Roberson is following up on promises to push for declaring so-called sanctuary cities unconstitutional.

The Nevada Independent reports a political action committee backed by Roberson filed the paperwork to create the ballot measure with the Secretary of State’s office Monday.

The proposed ballot measure would amend the state’s constitution making it unconstitutional for the Legislature or local governments to put in place laws or enact policies that limit or discourage full participation with federal immigration laws.

To pass, the constitutional amendment will have to amass more than 112,000 signatures and be approved by voters in both the 2018 and 2020 elections.
