FAA Examining New Raiders Stadium

The Raiders new stadium could stand 225 feet tall, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The professional sports franchise wants to start construction by Nov. 1, to be completed by June 30. The FAA is examining whether the domed stadium might hinder operations at nearby McCarran International Airport.

Factors the agency might consider include stadium lighting and post-game fireworks that could effect airlines as they pass through the busy airport.

It’s standard for the FAA to review any structure 150 feet or taller, regardless of its location. The Raiders had formally filed the request for a FAA review of the project last week. The FAA does not have any authority over local building decisions, but Clark County could ax any project deemed to be a hazard to airspace.
