The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe estimates that it will have to dish out about $3.9 million to cover the damage done to local roadways, ditches and the lake’s shorelines after heavy rainfall in January and February.
While the tribe does have a flood management plan, it focused on the control of the lower Truckee River rather than the small creeks that branch off from Pyramid Lake’s source.
The Reno Gazette Journal reportsthat the tribe plans to cover the damages with funds obtained from the settlement of the 2014 Fish Springs lawsuit, where the tribe gave up some of its water rights.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is spending an additional $7 million on repairs to Nevada State Highway 446, which had one portion of roadway collapse entirely.
