Las Vegas Prepares To Host National Rodeo

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Thousands of visitors are expected to come to Las Vegas this week for the 32nd annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

The Las Vegas Sun reports the 10-day event at the Thomas & Mack Center begins Thursday.

Rodeo contestants will participate in events such as bareback riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding as they seek world championship titles in front of an expected 18,000 fans a day.

About 170,000 people attended the 10-day series at the sports arena last year.

The event was at risk of moving to Florida in 2013 until Las Vegas Events signed an agreement with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association that will keep the rodeo in Las Vegas through 2024. Organizers have said the event has a $100 million economic impact on the city.
