The Desert Research Institute – the arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education that conducts environmental research – has a new interim president.
In a statement Monday, DRI said Robert Gagosian would serve as the group's interim president until the summer of 2017, or when the NSHE Board of Regents makes a permanent hire, whichever comes first.
Gagosian replaces Stephen Wells, who recently left to become president of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Gagosian is the former president of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, and is president emeritus of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Gagosian's hire was approved unanimously by the Board of Regents.
