US Poet Laureate To Make Appearance At Nevada State College

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — The first Hispanic poet laureate of the United States is making a visit to Las Vegas for a free public reading at a new 250-seat theater at the Nevada State College in Henderson.

Clark County Poet Laureate Bruce Isaacson says the 7 p.m. appearance Sept. 26 by Juan Felipe Herrera will mark Herrera's first visit to Nevada since he was named in June by the Library of Congress as poet laureate.

Herrera is the son of migrant California farmworkers. He earned his master's degree at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and is author of 28 books of poetry, novels for young adults and collections for children.
