For 25th year, Mojave Max contest open to all Southern Nevada residents

Clark County
Mojave Max

Groundhog Day marks the start of Mojave Max watch. The desert tortoise mascot is Clark County's official prognosticator, but it'll be a while before he emerges.

Once he emerges from brumation, spring has (unofficially) arrived in Southern Nevada.

Each year, elementary school children in Las Vegas are invited to predict the date he'll emerge. For its 25th anniversary, officials said this year's Mojave Max Emergence Contest is open to all Clark County residents.
