NEXTET is the contemporary chamber music series at the UNLV School of Music, featuring 20th and 21st-century concert music performed by faculty, students, and guest artists. This month,
UNLV faculty pianist Timothy Hoft will perform Frederic Rzewski's epic masterpiece, The People United Will Never Be Defeated! This is a set of 36 variations based on the Chilean song of the same name.

Composed in 1975, this 60-minute work has now been recorded multiple times by some of the world's most accomplished pianists. It is now considered to be a modern classic, and utilizes a vast array of styles, effects, and pianistic tricks.
