Cuban Missile Crisis explored
The National Atomic Testing Museum's “Atomic Stories” series is designed to bring history to life through expert perspectives, archival materials and engaging discussions connecting past events to present-day conversations.
This one begins with a showing of “One Week in October,” a black and white documentary created by the U.S. Department of Defense that was released in July 1964. The film recounts the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.
Following the screening, there will be a discussion with Martha DeMarre, founder of the National Atomic Testing Museum and archivist for the Nevada National Security Sites. DeMarre will provide expert commentary on the film’s historical significance and its lasting impact on generations of Americans.
