One Book, One Henderson
One Book, One Henderson
Now in its fifth year, the One Book, One Henderson program aims to get the community discussing the same book. This year's book is the Dark Maestro by Brandon Slocumb, which is available at Henderson Library locations as well as online. There will be a special author event concluding the program on September 12.
It tells the story of cello prodigy Curtis Wilson, who is growing up in the Southeast D.C. projects with a drug dealer for a father. But through determination and talent, and the loving support of his father’s girlfriend Larissa, Curtis claws his way out of his challenging circumstances and rises to unimagined heights in the classical music world—even soloing with the New York Philharmonic. Then, bad things happen.
The September 12 event will be at 10 a.m. at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway). The author will sign books during the event so either bring your own copy or purchase one there. There will be other events leading up to it.
