Documentary looks at Chicago's unlikely first Black mayor
Barack Obama moved to Chicago in 1985, in part, because of a man he’d never met: Harold Washington.
Punch 9 for Harold Washington is an epic story of American politics, race, and triumph against all odds that chronicles the captivating rise, surprising reign, and enduring legacy of Chicago’s first Black mayor, Harold Washington. In one of the dirtiest political campaigns in American history in a city rife with corruption and discrimination, Harold Washington took on the machine and won.
There are candid interviews with Reverend Jesse Jackson, Vice Mayor Richard Mell, Valarie Jarrett, David Axelrod, and others on the front lines and in the backrooms of power.
Following the screening will be a Q&A with the filmmaker Raymond Lambert and a panel of special guests. No charge, but you do need to reserve your spot.
