Día de los Muertos celebration and concert
Rooted in Latin American cultural traditions that honor loved ones who have passed while celebrating the lives they lived, Día de los Muertos brings families, friends and neighbors together through remembrance, art, music and community celebration. This annual event welcomes people from across Henderson and the Las Vegas Valley to experience these meaningful traditions and connect with one another.
Inside the Rogers Student Center Ballroom, ofrendas (offerings) prepared by students, families and community members will be on display. Also, Peso Neto, a steel sculpture by artist Luis Valera-Rico that takes the form of an ofrenda. Mariachi Plata of the College of Southern Nevada and Ballet Folklórico Sol Huasteco will perform throughout the evening. The program concludes with a concert by Las Cafeteras, an East Los Angeles band rooted in Afro-Mexican musical traditions.
