Sean Kenney

Gear up for summer with great music, stage acts, and art

Through Sep. 8

Sean Kenney may be a New York-based artist, but his newest exhibition is debuting right here in Southern Nevada. The sculptures in this show are no ordinary statues — they're made with LEGO® bricks. With over 20 years of creating art with the infantile building blocks, Kenney created Brick Planet to help give a better understanding of the environment. The giant sculptures range from mammals, plants, insects, birds, and more! And — what better place is there to premier an exhibit about wildlife than the Springs Preserve's Origen Museum?

Through May 31

As we near the end of Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, make sure you stop at the Stone Soup Art Gallery in North Las Vegas' city hall. Until the end of the month, there will be local artists' work displayed with an emphasis on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders' culture. They tell their story of culture through painted canvases, emphasizing the cultural experiences of bringing their heritage to Southern Nevada.

Note: Gallery and North Las Vegas City Hall are closed on weekends.

May 21 - June 2

This black (leather jacket) comedy is based on that one time when the Ramones recorded an album with "Wall of Sound" producer Phil Spector, who never hesitated to pull a gun on anyone and in the case of the New York City punk band, hold them hostage for six hours. With what we now know about Spector, who died in prison, this production should provide a master class in comedic tension.

This three-act opera is Conrad Susa's take on Pierre Chodelos de Laclos' 18th-century novel. It's a drama full of vengeance, love, and affair told completely through letters. Tighten your seatbelts for this one, because it sure is a roller coaster of emotions you'll want to ride.

June 3 - June 25

There's a newcomer in town: Fallout Fringe. Organizers say the downtown-based band will "cater to challenging and bleeding edge work" with some 115-plus-performances, artist conversations, parties, and workshops.
