Kuniko Yamamoto: Origami Tales

Demonstration

July 7

Sponsor Message

This wouldn’t be See Hear Do without the inclusion of least one event honoring Japanese culture. Well, here’s that one — and it’s a classic! Origami, the time-honored Japanese art of folding paper into 3-D shapes, has been touted as a great way to increase mindfulness and decrease stress. And creations can go beyond the traditional crane shape to encompass fauna of all types. Dinosaur-lovers and horse girls can create their own paper totems using the foundational skills that Yamamoto teaches in this course. Adults and littles alike will be able to expand their origami menagerie after the class has ended. 11-11:45a, free, Whitney Library, (702) 507-4015

Nevada Cannabis Awards

Festival

July 10

High times await at the Nevada Cannabis Awards, where (seriously) actually getting high is strictly prohibited. There’s still a great time to be had sober, though, with live music from various genres and convention booths to honor local leaders in the cannabis industry. Those who are not up to attending the awards can still participate in the fun by voting for their favorite marijuana-centered businesses, products, thought leaders, and media from the Silver State. 4p-12a, $42-100, Area 15, nevadacannabisawardsmusicfestival.com

Jeremy Cornwell and Adena Sampson

Concert

July 12

Nothing says “summer” like an outdoor concert, especially when said concert is free, family-friendly, and hosting the two superb singer-songwriters Jeremy Cornwell and Adena Sampson. This is the last in the 2023 Summerlin Sounds series, so if you’ve not gotten a chance to attend yet this year, pack a blanket and load the fam in the car. Folksy guitar-playing is a tried-and-true crowd pleaser, so they probably won’t even complain. 6-9p, free, Downtown Summerlin, summerlin.com

Book Reading and Signing with Jack Grisham of T.S.O.L.

Book Signing

July 14

Jack Grisham has been an icon of Punk since he cannonballed onto the scene in the late 1970s. What fans of his music might not realize is that he’s also an author; his most recent book, True Stories: A Loose Collection of Flash Fiction, published in March. The compendium of short tales is evocative, gritty, and not for the faint of heart — much like Punk itself. 5:30p, $15-30 for general admission, The Punk Rock Museum, thepunkrockmuseum.com

The Songs of C&K

Concert

July 15

You don’t have to be from the Aloha State to love Hawaiian music — on the contrary, it’s a great gateway to Hawaiian culture for those interested in learning more. Enter Henry Kapono of the band Cecilio and Kapono (C&K), whose 50th anniversary tour is stopping at Henderson’s Water Street Plaza. The show celebrates the best of his music with C&K, as well as featuring his later solo hits (including his iconic song for Hawaiian Airlines, “Home in the Islands”). Kapono’s guitar playing is reminiscent of Santana with a tropical twist, while the easygoing vocals lend the whole performance a very casual, timeless vibe. 8p, $15, Water Street Plaza Amphitheater, cityofhenderson.com
