Forum discusses safe, inclusive community as Las Vegas expands into sports

Yvette Fernandez/KNPR

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation held its first in a series of forums with Southern Nevada business leaders, supporting the organization’s mantra that a stronger economy starts with a safer, inclusive community.

Community and business leaders discussed how working together has helped transform Las Vegas from the “Entertainment Capital of the World” to the “Entertainment and Sports Capital of the World.”

Marc Badain was instrumental in getting Allegiant Stadium built.

Badain is now president of Oak View Group, which is at the beginning stages of bringing a new arena and casino-resort to be located about three miles south of Allegiant Stadium.

He said working with local businesses was important to the success of Allegiant and the same goes for this new, still unnamed, large-scale project.

"On Allegiant Stadium, we had to make sure the traffic and parking didn’t impact local businesses," he said. "Those constituents were very important. And we’ll have the same situation at this location. There’s less directly impacted, but there’s certainly businesses and residents across Las Vegas Boulevard, and we need to make sure we don’t impact their lifestyle there."

Badain said the group is hoping to break ground this year and be fully operational in 2026.
