Gov. Sisolak Declares Fiscal Emergency

Governor Steve Sisolak has declared a state of fiscal emergency because of the strain the coronavirus pandemic has put on Nevada.

The state is estimating a huge shortfall in the State General Fund. Estimates from the Governor’s Finance Office and Legislative Counsel Bureau-Fiscal Division put the shortfall at somewhere between $741 million to $911 million for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2020.

By declaring the emergency, the governor and Interim Finance Committee can now move money from the state's rainy day fund into the general fund.
