Las Vegas Police Investigate Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting

LAS VEGAS (AP) —  Police in Las Vegas have identified the officer involved in a deadly shooting last week.

They say Sgt. Timothy Stovall has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending an investigation of Wednesday's shooting.

The 51-year-old Stovall has been with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2001.  He's assigned to the Gangs Vice Bureau, Investigative Services Division.

Police say the shooting occurred on Interstate 15. Officers were called about a person allegedly driving erratically in the area. Police were able to pull the vehicle over but say the suspect showed a gun and was shot.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Police say additional information and body camera footage of the incident will be released at a later date.
