Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Hit Officer With Pickup Truck

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say two North Las Vegas police officers fatally shot a man who struck an officer with his pickup truck.

North Las Vegas police spokesman Eric Leavitt says the officers stopped the driver Wednesday and approached the blue, four-door truck.

A witness says the officers told the suspect to exit the vehicle. He refused repeatedly then rammed his car into an officer, injuring him in the knee.

Leavitt says police then fired several rounds into the pickup. The driver died at the scene.

It remains unclear why the two officers detained the pickup and tried to speak with the driver.

Leavitt says the officers were not part of the police department's body-worn camera pilot program, and were not wearing body cameras.

The Clark County coroner's office will release the deceased man's identity after his family is notified.
