State Ethics Panel Clears Reno Mayor Of Ethics Complaint

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Ethics Commission has rejected a complaint filed against Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve by her opponent in the November election.

The Reno Gazette Journal reported Commission Chairwoman Cheryl Lau wrote in a letter to Schieve this week that the panel "declines to investigate" the complaint based on a lack of "sufficient evidence" that Schieve used her elected office to benefit her re-election campaign.

At issue was the "Biggest Little Selfie" that Schieve took with the crowd during an '80s-theme celebration under the refurbished Reno Arch.

Her opponent Eddie Lorton filed the complaint last month, arguing that a city-funded promotion for the celebration arch too closely mimicked Schieve's 2014 re-election campaign.

Lorton says he's disappointed the commission allowed the city to spend city funds on a politician's campaign.
